Hello and a warm welcome to my website. I have worked as a counsellor and mental health professional for a number of years. I work and live in the Wrexham area. I work with nature as my co-therapist. It is being surrounded by nature, woodlands in particular, that I have discovered my own true self. I know through my own experience that nature holds the key to our own healing and holds a space safely for us to explore our deepest feelings, learn about our inner world and guides us to a place where we can feel connected to nature, connected to others and connected to self. Connection is the antidote to stress in this modern society where anxiety, stress and depression are at epidemic proportions. I am also a Mindfulness in the Woods practitioner. This enables me to teach techniques that help reduce stress and anxiety. Mindfulness in nature is an amazing tool that has helped many people access a therapeutic space and time which is free, easy and can be done anywhere. I have a very comfortable garden room with windows looking out onto a garden with a large birch tree and apple trees. We are also a stones throw away from some beautiful short and long walks through woodlands and meadows and one which takes you to a waterfall. There is no better therapy than immersing yourself in nature, the only thing we need to learn is how to do it mindfully.
You may be wondering what the difference is between Counselling, nature therapy and Life Coaching, and maybe trying to decide which one is suitable for you. I will give you an overview so you can make an informed choice.
Counselling is a service available to everyone by a trained professional. Counselling can help you to talk about your feelings and thoughts, past, present or future issues that may be causing some distress. There are times when life can just feel like too much to cope with and we can feel overwhelmed and stressed, this can cause illness, mental health problems and sometimes depression and/or anxiety and at times suicidal thoughts. Counselling can help a person look at their life in a holistic way, support the person in making choices and work towards positive change. You will receive empathy, acceptance and a space where you can safely explore your feelings.
Nature Therapy is about spending time in nature in a mindful way, this is a therapeutic time and space where you can learn techniques that relieve stress and build your own tool box of coping strategies. I will guide you in these techniques for you to practice on your own. I can also teach basic fire-lighting techniques, axe work and herbal medicine making for common ailments etc.
Life Coaching aims to empower others to make and achieve their goals in their personal and professional lives. In a session you can expect to explore areas in your life that are in need of development and work towards setting SMART goals which will enable you to make changes towards a better life for yourself. You can expect an environment where I, the coach, is supportive, non-judgemental, accepting and at times gently challenging, in a nurturing way. You will not be made to do anything you don’t want to do and you will always be in charge and full control of all the decision making processes. You are the only person who knows what is best for you and so the coach will always respect that and be guided by you.
Don’t worry, you may not know which method would be best for you or you might fancy a bit of all three! There are no rules here, just book an appointment and we can talk about your needs and desires for your therapy and swap and change the method I use depending on where you are at that week, or it may even be dependant on the weather on that particular day. You, the client, is always in charge and we can change things up as we go along the therapeutic journey together.
Whether you choose counselling, nature therapy, or life coaching everything we discuss will be totally confidential. There are rare occasions in counselling when there might be a time when a disclosure is made and needs to be passed to someone other than myself, but this is explained fully in the first session and I would never do anything without talking it through first with you.
